About JFD

Welcome to the Training Division website of the Joplin Fire Department (JFD).  JFD is well known for a “can-do attitude” coupled with the latest in training, equipment and some of the best people in the business.  The Joplin Fire Department serves an area of approximately 50 square miles and a daytime population of 240,000. The City is protected by:

  • A daily, on-duty strength of 31 members and 7 administrative personnel
  • Staffing six strategically located stations

Firefighters serve the City on:

  • 3 engine companies
  • 2 truck companies
  • 1 ladder company
  • 2 rescue units
  • 2 command units
  • Haz-mat unit/trailer
  • Special operations unit/trailer and truck (to be implemented by May 2014)

Currently, the Department holds an ISO (Insurance Services Office) rating of 3 which helps ensure some of the lowest rates available for Residential Hazard Insurance. Training is a key component in attaining the best possible rating for the City of Joplin.
